Giving Back To The Community
Willowbrook Shopping Centre is proud to give back! With the support of our shoppers, retailers, and suppliers, we are able to help out our local community year-round.
Willowbrook's main charitable partner is the Langley School District Foundation. The foundation helps to provide a real and positive impact on the education and lives of thousands of great kids at the elementary and high school level! Over the past 10 years, Willowbrook has raised over $104,512 for the Langley School District Foundation from our various in-centre initiatives (including Easter photos, Halloween Trick-Or-Treat Parade, Holiday Shopping Event, and our Holiday Charity Gift Wrap Centre). These funds will go to fund innovative programs for Langley schools.
In 2011, Willowbrook Shopping Centre also supported 52 other organizations, which raised more than $108,000 from 3rd party fundraising, over 140 days of in-kind centre space donations. We also directly supported/sponsored several causes including: Heart and Stroke Foundation, Langley Canada Day Celebration, and more.
Giving Highlights
ADOPT A STREAM - YEAR ROUND
As part of our environmental initiatives, in 2010, Willowbrook Shopping Centre adopted the creek at Meadows Creek Park through the Township of Langley's "Adopt" program. As part of this program, Willowbrook Administration staff conduct litter pick-ups at the stream on a regular basis in order to preserve the ecologically sensitive stream environment.
HEART AND STROKE FOUNDATION – YEAR ROUND
Members of the Willowbrook Hearts in Motion Walking Club, a joint initiative of Willowbrook and the Heart & Stroke Foundation, meet every morning and walk the Centre. As well as the benefits of exercise,
members enjoy monthly breakfasts held at the Centre's food court. Also, every year, the Walking Club, plus members of Willowbrook’s Administration team, fundraise for the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s
BIG BIKE ride; in 2011, we raised over $4,400 for the cause and received the Team Spirit Award!
EASTER PHOTOS – MARCH/APRIL
Annually, through March and April, customers of all ages hopped on down for photos with the Easter Bunny! Net proceeds of sales supported the Langley School District Foundation. In total, $5,526 was raised in 2011 for the Foundation through Easter photo sales, thanks to our customers.
BANK A BAG – APRIL
Annually, every April, Willowbrook Shopping Centre's shoppers were invited to help make the earth a greener place, by declining a plastic bag with their purchases at Willowbrook stores. A total of 5,119 plastic bags were saved from the landfill with this eco-initiative during the 2011 initiative.
LANGLEY CANADA DAY CELEBRATION – JULY
Willowbrook was a proud Community Sponsor of both the 2010 and 2011 Langley Canada Day Celebration held at the McLeod Athletic Park.
TRICK OR TREAT PARADE - OCTOBER
Annually, our popular Trick or Treat Parade is held on October 31, and over 1000 ghosts, princesses, dinosaurs and more helped us raise funds for the Langley School District Foundation! In 2010, $1494 was raised for the Foundation. A big thanks to the community for supporting this annual fundraising event!
HOLIDAY SHOPPING EVENT- NOVEMBER
Willowbrook held it's first annual Holiday Shopping Event on November 29, 2011. The fun ticketed event allowed shoppers to take beat the holiday shopping crowds, take advantage of great savings, enjoy fab entertainment and activities, and support the Langley School District Foundation at the same time. $18,287 was raised from the 2011 Holiday Shopping Event to bring technology and music programs into Langley schools.
CHARITY GIFT WRAP CENTRE - DECEMBER
Thousands of shoppers took advantage of Willowbrook's holiday gift wrapping services at our Charity Gift Wrap Centre in December 2010. Over $16,598 was raised from the Gift Wrap Centre and proceeds from the gift wrap services went to the Langley School District Foundation to help fund innovative programs at schools. Watch for details regarding the 2011 Gift Wrap Centre - coming soon. This year, there will also be a celebrity gift wrap day!
